Vocabulary

Vocabulary is the most important component of language knowledge. It is one of the best predictors of language performance. Students don’t just ‘pick up’ vocabulary from reading and listening. It needs to be actively taught.
Here you can find ideas for practicing and reviewing basic vocabulary.

Vocabulary Activities

Commonly Confused Words (6th-8th grade)
A list of words which are alike and are often confused, and activities to review and practice homophones.
Logic Puzzles (7th-8th grade)
Logic puzzles are excellent for practicing vocabulary as well as reading comprehension.
Word Wall Crawl (7th-8th grade)
This is fun activity for reviewing recently taught vocabulary that involves the whole class.
The ABC Quiz: Can You Name...? (5th-7th grade)
In this activities studens name words from certain categories beginnig with certain letters .
Five Minutes (5th-8th grade)
Students get five minutes to fill in as many answers as they can.
